Box Score

POULTNEY, VT– Thomas' Sean Machin scored four goals while teammates Jordan Marino and Parker Chute each potted three to lead the Terriers to a 12-4 North Atlantic Conference victory over Green Mountain College on Sunday afternoon at a blustery Eagles Game Field.

Green Mountain bucked its trend of slow starts by scoring the first goal of the game at 14:36 of the first quarter.  As the Eagles swung the ball around the exterior, Toliver DiMasi found a large hole in the defense and cut towards the net and beat Terriers' goalie Jesse Morkeski.

The lead was short lived, however, as Thomas reeled off three-straight markers, two from Machin and one from Chute, to take a 3-2 lead into the start of the second quarter.

Thomas (2-5, 1-2 NAC) dominated the second quarter of play in part because of the fact the team took advantage of the man-up opportunities, scoring twice with an extra man.  Gunnar Shelton and Marino scored two even strength goals before Chute and Sheldon Jones netted two man-up tallies to give the Terrier's a commanding 7-2 lead.

Green Mountain (0-7, 0-3 NAC) did not let up as the half wound to a close, however, as Nate Laymon converted a nice pass from Dakota Keller as time expired in the half.

GMC closed the gap to 7-4 in the third quarter when it scored on a man-down possession.  Charlie Petrick scored on cut down the middle from a Laymon feed.  Thomas would respond later in the quarter with Marino's second goal of the game to take an 8-4 lead into the final stanza.

The Terriers erased any hope of a comeback by the Eagles as they scored the final four goals of the game to clinch the team's first conference victory.  Machin scored his third and fourth goals, while Chute and Marino each netted their third.

Aside from the scoring, both teams were busy in the midfield as the wind played havoc with clearing attempts and long passes.  Thomas' Zac Crimmin led all players with seven ground balls, while teammates Jones and Matt Davis each contributed three.  Green Mountain also received strong play from its midfielders as Oliver Osnoss and Keller each tallied six ground balls while Laymon and Petrick each picked up five.

The wind also affected shots on goal as both teams struggled to hit the mark with their attempts. Morkeski (2-5) stopped nine shots on net for the Terriers to earn the victory, while GMC's Luke Carey (0-7) made seven saves in defeat.

Thomas continues its road journey as the Terriers face UMass.-Boston on April 10th at 3:30 p.m.
