Box Score CASTLETON, VT- The Terriers (1-5, 0-2 NAC) fell 25-2 to Castleton (6-3, 3-0 NAC) at Spartan Stadium on Saturday, Apr. 6, in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) men's lacrosse play.
Thomas began the game with a 1-0 lead, scoring on a Jordan Marino goal just 2:39 into the game. Gunnar Shelton earned an assist on the play. The Spartans responded in a big way, rattling off six goals before the end of the quarter.
In the second quarter, the Spartans kept the Terriers from sniffing the net, holding them scoreless throughout the entire frame. With 4:28 remaining in the half, Alex Green ripped a shot past Morkeski for his second goal of the game and the 100th of his career. The junior joins teammate Nohea King as the second member of this year's squad and one of just six players in program history to pass the 100-goal milestone.
Castleton held the Terriers scoreless for over 40 minutes of play, ripping off a 20-0 run that spanned the length of nearly three quarters before finally allowing a goal with 1:33 left in the third quarter. Sean Machin notched the tally for Thomas to make the score 20-2. The Spartans closed out the game with five fourth quarter goals, including two from Paul Saulsbury, to win 25-2.
Castleton outshot the Terriers 73-6 on the day, and earned 71 ground balls to Thomas' 27. Thomas goalie Jesse Morkeski made 22 saves in the loss, while Peter Latulippe and Sam Polas combined for two saves and two goals against for the Spartans.
Thomas will return to action tomorrow at Green Mountain for a 2pm showdown.
