Thomas Jinxed by Pilgrims in Conference Tilt

WATERVILLE, ME- The Terriers (3-7) were taken down by New England College (6-6) 19-3, in a North Atlantic Conference men's lacrosse contest Sunday afternoon. Senior net minder Jesse Morkeski (Damariscotta, Maine) made 19 saves in the losing effort for Thomas.

Thomas came out strong at the start, scoring the game's first goal only 51 seconds into the contest when junior Gunnar Shelton (Eugene, Ore.) received a pass from sophomore Matt Davis (Farmington, Maine) and put it into the net for the goal. The Terriers were able to hold off the Pilgrims scoreless for over five minutes into the contest. New England College would control the rest of the half as they would score 13 unanswered goals to grab a big halftime lead. Senior Brian Gillis (North Vancouver, B.C.) had six goals and junior Adam Chute (Calgary, Alberta) had four goals to lead the surge.

In the second half, the Pilgrims maintained their level of play and would outscore Thomas 3-1 in both quarters. Junior Jordan Marino (Londonberry, N.H.) and freshman Bryan Ferris (Whitman, Mass.) each netted a goal for the Terriers.

New England College outshot Thomas 65-17, and held a 43-16 advantage on groundballs. Thomas was 19-23 in clears, and 9-26 on face offs.

Thomas will look to rebound when they take on conference rival University of Maine-Farmington on Wednesday at 7pm on the Black Field.
