Box Score Waterville, Maine – The Thomas College men's lacrosse team struggled to find any sort of rhythm as they were shutout by the Mariners of Maine Maritime Academy, Saturday afternoon on Alumni Field. With the loss the Terriers drop their second game in a row and open North Atlantic Conference play with a loss, while the visiting Mariners pick up their first win of the season and improve to 1-1 in NAC play.
MMA's (1-5, 1-1 NAC) Andrew DiSalvo got things rolling early with an unsettled goal at the 11:50 mark starting a seven goal first quarter run for the Mariners. Turnovers plagued the Terriers (1-6, 0-1 NAC) throughout the game, but were particularly troublesome during the first quarter as they gave MMA the ball 14 times helping feed their seven goal run. DiSalvo finished his hat trick at the 7:46 mark in the first quarter.
In the second quarter MMA continued their run as they sent six more goals past Thomas goalkeeper Jesse Morkeski.
At the break MMA held a commanding 13-0 lead.
The Terriers defense was able to slow the bleeding in the third quarter of play holding the Mariners to one goal. MMA added three more goals in the fourth quarter before Ryan Williams capped the scoring with 42 seconds left to go.
DiSalvo racked up seven points in a winning effort scoring four goals and three assists. Along with DeSalvo and Williams, Nicholas Betti, Nick Snelling, Tome Houle, A.J. Larrabee, Brian Corain, Bronson Guimond, and Cameron Wyman all found the back of the net.
Morkeski made a respectable 16 saves for the Terriers before giving way to Derek Racine with 4:45 left to go in the fourth. Gavin Cote made two saves of two shots on goal to pick up the win.
The Terriers continue NAC play with a Friday afternoon matchup with the reigning champ Castleton State. Game time is set for 3:15 p.m. on Alumni Field. MMA will take on Johnson State on Friday at 7:00 p.m. in Castine.
