The Terriers make it three in a Row

Waterville, Maine – The Thomas College men's soccer team won an intense game versus North Atlantic Conference foe Castleton State Sunday afternoon on Alumni Field.  Sophomore Matt Ford led the Terriers to a 3-1 victory with a goal and an assist.

With the win the Terriers improve to 7-4 (3-3 NAC) and pick up their third win in a row. The visiting Spartans fall to 7-5-1 (4-1 NAC) dropping their first NAC game of the season.

The Terriers took the 1-0 lead when Ford slipped a shot left high on a penalty kick at the 26:32 mark for his first goal of the 2011 season. The Spartans answered just four minutes later when Trevor Kotrady finished a pass from Dillion Zaengle tying the game at a goal apiece.

The game remained tied 1-1 at the half.

Freshman Khamisi Lightbournetallied the eventual game winning goal when he finished a Ford pass at the 48:42 mark for the 2-0 lead. Almost 20 minutes later Michael Hand split two defenders for the final tally of the match and his seventh goal of the year. 

Aggressive play from both sides resulted in 43 fouls and five yellow cards.

Both keepers had a busy day as the Terriers outshot the Spartans 27-to-22. Sophomore goal keeper Mikkail Crockwell recorded 12 saves in the win for the Terriers.  Despite an eight save effort Nate Koenemann shoulders the loss for Castleton.

The Terriers travel up KMD to defend the Elm City Cup on Tuesday October 11th at 3:30 p.m. against cross-town rival Colby College.  The Spartans host NAC foe Husson University on October 15th at 3:30 p.m.
