Gavin Kane came to Thomas College for the 2024-25 season after spending the previous seven years as the Head Women’s Basketball Coach and Assistant Athletic Director at The University of Maine – Presque Isle where he led the Owls to 3 consecutive North Atlantic Conference Playoffs following the Covid season of 2020-21. Kane’s lengthy coaching career also involves 28 years as a boys and girls High School varsity coach in Maine, two years as a Men’s Assistant Coach at D3 UMaine-Farmington, and two years as a Women’s Assistant Coach at D1 UMaine-Orono. In May of 2025 Kane was promoted to Head NCAA Women's Basketball Coach.

Kane will serve as Associate Head Women’s Basketball Coach at Thomas as well as the NCBBA Head Coach. “I am extremely pleased to be part of the Thomas College Athletic Department and Community. I very much look forward to working with Coach Coleman and Coach Mehan with our NCAA Team, as well as leading our National Club Basketball Program.” 

Kane has been inducted into both The New England Basketball Hall of Fame (2013) and The Maine Basketball Hall of Fame (2020). His High School coaching resume includes an overall record of 525 wins – 117 losses, 7 State Championships and a Maine State record 11 consecutive Regional Championships. Kane developed several D1 players, most notably Tom Knight, a 6’8” center for Dirigo High School, who went on to play at Notre Dame, and Lyndsay Clark, a 6’1” center who also played at Dirigo HS and went on to play at Albany.  While at D1 UMaine, Coach Kane was instrumental in the recruitment of guard Ashleigh Roberts who went on to score 1,248 for the Black Bears. 

Kane graduated from The University of Maine – Farmington with a Bachelor of Science Degree in School and Community Health. He has also coached both High School and College Golf and Baseball during his career. Kane resides in Wilton, Maine.
