Thomas College

Waterville, ME - The Thomas College Field Hockey Team earned a 4-3 victory over Rivier University on Sunday afternoon at home. The Terriers battled back from an early deficit and held off a late Rivier push to secure the win. 
 

How It Happened: 

• Rivier struck first just over four minutes into the game, taking an early 1-0 lead.
• Less than two minutes later, Samantha Thebarge converted a penalty stroke to even the game at 1-1.
• The Terriers continued to apply pressure, earning multiple penalty corners and create several scoring opportunities.
• With just over five minutes remaining in the second quarter, Thebarge found the back of the cage again, this time off a penalty corner assisted by Maci Freeman, giving Thomas a 2-1 lead.
• Rivier answered late in the second quarter, tying the game at 2-2 heading into halftime.
• Just under five minutes into the third quarter, Tatiana Roque put the Terriers back in front, scoring off an assist from Thebarge.
• Thomas continued to pressure Rivier throughout the third quarter, earning multiple penalty corners and creating several opportunities to extend its lead.
• Just 25 seconds into the fourth quarter, Thebarge completed her hat trick, scoring off a penalty corner with assists from Isabella Pelletier and Freeman to give the Terriers a 4-2 advantage.
• Rivier cut the lead to 4-3 with just under 10 minutes remaining in the game.
• The Rivier attack continued to pressure the Terrier defense, but Mackenzie Toner came up with two important saves, while Meredith Delehanty recorded a defensive save to preserve the Terrier lead.
• Thomas held on through the final minutes to secure the 4-3 victory.

• The Terriers will be back in action when they travel to #10 ranked Bates College on Tuesday, September 15th. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 PM in Lewiston, Maine.
