Game Recap: Baseball |

Baseball Begins VTSU Lyndon Series with Day One Split

Rindge, New Hampshire - Baseball opened up their four game and two day series against the VTSU Lyndon Hornets on Friday, April 3rd, 2026. The Terriers fell 8-10 in game one, but bounced back to defeat the Hornets 7-4 in game two.

How it Happened:

Game One: 8-10 Loss (9 Innings)
  • Thomas came out swinging in the bottom of the first inning, as Ajay Rychcik launched a two-run home run scoring DJ Cagnina to give the Terriers an early 2–0 lead.
  • Lyndon quickly responded with an RBI double to cut the deficit to one, setting the tone for a back-and-forth contest.
  • The Terriers extended their lead in the fourth inning when Gavin Clark crushed a two-run homer, scoring Zeke Rand, pushing Thomas ahead 4–1.
  • However, the momentum shifted dramatically later in the inning. Lyndon capitalized on defensive struggles, scoring three runs, two of them unearned, to tie the game at 4–4.
  • Thomas briefly regained the lead in the fifth inning behind an RBI double from Rychcik, scoring Nick Griffel.
  • Lyndon answered once again, tying the game at 5–5 on a fielder's choice. The Hornets then took control in the sixth inning, using a sacrifice fly and an RBI single to build a 7–5 advantage.
  • The decisive blow came in the seventh inning. Lyndon plated three more runs, highlighted by a two-run home run, extending the lead to 10–5. Many of Lyndon's runs throughout the game came unearned, as Thomas struggled defensively at key moments.
  • Despite the deficit, the Terriers showed resilience in the eighth inning. Gus Hollen and Grady Hotham each delivered home runs, with Hotham's two-run shot scoring Gavin Clark, bringing Thomas within two runs at 10–8.
  • However, the comeback fell short, as Lyndon held on to secure the Game one victory.

Inside the Stats:
Game Two: 7-4 Win (7 Innings)
  • Lyndon struck first in the opening inning, taking advantage of an aggressive baserunning sequence that resulted in a run crossing the plate despite an out on the bases. However, Thomas wasted no time answering back.
  • Hayden Dippner ignited the offense with a solo home run, tying the game at 1–1.
  • Just moments later, Rychcik delivered a two-run blast, scoring Griffel and giving the Terriers a 3–1 lead before the inning ended.
  • Thomas continued to apply pressure in the second inning when Dippner added a sacrifice fly, scoring Jeremy Spencer, extending the lead to 4–1.
  • The Terriers added another run in the fourth inning in unconventional fashion. Griffel swiped second base and advanced to third on a throwing error, allowing Spencer to score an unearned run and push the lead to 5–1.
  • Lyndon attempted to chip away at the deficit in the sixth inning with a solo home run, but Thomas responded immediately.
  • Back-to-back RBI singles from Cagnina and Rychcik, both resulting in unearned runs with Nathan Paes and Griffel crossing the plate, extended the Terriers' lead to 7–2 and provided crucial insurance.
  • Lyndon mounted a late push in the seventh inning, scoring two runs on a groundout and an RBI double, but the Thomas pitching staff held firm to secure the 7–4 victory.
