Men's Lacrosse Falls to Salem State in Non-Conference Match-Up

Waterville, ME - Men's Lacrosse hosted Salem State University in a non-conference match-up on Thursday, April 2, but were unable to keep pace with the Vikings, falling by a final score of 8-24.

Thomas: Overall (6-3), NAC (1-0)
Salem State: Overall (6-3), MASCAC (1-1)

How it Happened:
  • The Vikings claimed the early momentum in the opening minutes of the 1st, scoring back-to-back goals to put the Terriers 0-2.
  • The Terriers found a response midway through the first, scoring two unanswered goals of its own thanks to goals from Hunter Simpson and Owen Lyons.
  • However, a pair of late goals from the Vikings to end the 1st quarter pushed the Terriers into a 2-4 deficit after fifteen minutes of play.
  • Salem State continued to extend its lead in the opening minutes of the 2nd quarter, finding the back of the net twice in under a minutes to push the Terriers deficit to four goals.
  • But the Terriers continued to battle, with O. Lyons (assisted by Connor Hamilton) and Nicholas Pike (assisted by O. Lyons) scoring midway through the 2nd to make it a 4-6 game.
  • The Terriers continued to battle for momentum late in final minutes of the 2nd, but 3 unanswered goals to close out the quarter from the Vikings sent the Terriers into the half trailing 4-9.
  • Salem State continued to apply pressure early in the 3rd, scoring back-to-back goals to push the Terriers deficit to seven.
  • O. Lyons looked to spark some momentum for the Terriers with his third goal of the day in the following minutes.
  • But a quick response from Vikings midway through the 3rd kept it a seven goal game with just under seven minutes to play in the quarter.
  • Wyatt Lyons and Jack Morrill continued to give the Terriers offense life with back-to-back goals shortly afterwards, but another late response from the Vikings put the Terriers down 7-14 in heading into the 4th quarter.
  • Declan Brown added the Terriers lone goal in the 4th, but a flurry of goals from the Vikings to close the quarter ultimately put the game out of reach, falling to Salem State by a final score of 8-24.

  • Men's Lacrosse will look to bounce back on Wednesday, April 8th, traveling to Castine, Maine to take on the Maine Maritime Academy Mariners in a North Atlantic Conference match-up. Match time is set for 5:30 PM at Ritchie Field.
