Men's Lacrosse Takes Down Undefeated William Peace University in 13-10 Win

Raleigh, NC – Men's Lacrosse traveled to Raleigh, North Carolina for their annual spring trip to take on undefeated William Peace University in a non-conference match-up on Saturday, March 8th. The Terriers delivered a gritty performance on the road, defeating the Pacers 13–10 and handing William Peace its first loss of the regular season. Owen Lyons (4 goals), Nicholas Pike (3 goals), and Wyatt Lyons (3 goals) led the Terriers offensively with ten combined goals, while the Terriers' defense turned in a strong performance, recording an impressive 41 ground balls and 21 caused turnovers as a team.

How it Happened:
  • The Terriers claimed the momentum of the game off the opening face-off, scoring two quick goals thanks to Owen Lyons (assisted by Jack Morrill) and Wyatt Lyons (assisted by Hunter Simpson) to make it a 2-0 game early on.
  • Nicholas Pike closed out the 1st quarter on a high note, finding the back of the net off an O. Lyons assist to extend the Terriers lead to 3 goals heading into the 2nd quarter.
  • William Peace found a response in the opening minutes of the 2nd quarter with a goal of their own to cut the Terriers lead to just two goals.
  • But the Terriers answered right back, with Pike (man-up, assisted by Connor Hamilton)Ā and W. Lyons (assisted by Morrill) scoring back to back goals in less than ten seconds to give Thomas a 5-1 lead midway through the 2nd.
  • The Pacers added two more goals in the 2nd,Ā but four combined goals from Hamilton and O. Lyons late in the quarter sent the Terriers into the half up 9-3.
  • Pike continued to build off the Terriers momentum in the 3rd, scoring his third goal of the game in the opening minutes of the quarter.
  • But three goals from the Pacers in the following minutesĀ cut the Terriers lead to four goals.
  • W. Lyons completed a hat-trick of his own with a goal assisted by Simpson in the following minutes to extend the Terriers lead to five goals.
  • However, a goalĀ from the Pacers in the final minutes of the quarter made it an 11-7 game heading into the final 15 minutes of regulation.
  • William and Peace looked to flip the momentum of the game early in the fourth with a quick goal to make it an 11-8 game.
  • But the Terriers responded yet again, scoring two goals minutes later thanks to Simpson and Hamilton to give the Terriers a 13-8 late in the 4th.
  • Despite two quick goals from the Pacers in the final seconds of the game, the Terriers ultimately held on to hand William Peace its first loss of the regular season by a final score of 13-10.
  • With the win over the Pacers, Terriers goalkeeper Mike Picard earnedĀ his second win in net on the season, finishing the contest with eight saves.

  • Men's Lacrosse will look to extend it'sĀ two-game win streak on Tuesday, March 17th, hosting Regis College in a non-conference contest. Opening face-off is scheduled for 4:00 PM at Smith Field.
