Baseball's Comeback Bid Not Enough Against Russell Sage

Auburndale, FL - Baseball took on Russell Sage College in day three of the team's spring trip to Florida on Sunday, March 8th, 2026 in a single nine inning game. Despite an impressive comeback bid in in the eighth and briefly taking the lead, the Terriers eventually fell 9-11.

How it Happened:
  • The Gators started off strong, scoring four runs in the bottom of the first inning.
  • Both teams were held scoreless in the second inning, leading to a 0-4 deficit entering the third.
  • In the bottom of the third the Gators tacked on one more run, making it 0-5.
  • However, the Terriers were able to bounce right back in the top of the fourth.
  • A ground out from Zeke Rand scored DJ Cagnina to make things 1-5.
  • A single from Gavin Clark soon after scored Ajay Rychcik, then a single from Evan Nadeau brought Clark home to make it 3-5.
  • Neither team would score again until the sixth inning, when the Gators scored three runs to give them a sizable five run lead.
  • The Terriers still had some fight left in them, and began to battle back in the eighth inning.
  • A hit by pitch on Nadeau scored Rand, then a sacrifice fly from Gus Hollen made the score 6-8.
  • Cagnina, the next batter, hit a huge double that scored Hayden Dippner and Nadeau to tie things at 8-8.
  • An RBI single from Rychicik followed, completing the Terrier rally to take a 9-8 lead.
  • Despite the lead, the Gators were able to bounce back and score two runs in the bottom of the eighth, handing the Terriers the loss.

  • Baseball will continue their time in Florida on Tuesday, March 10th, when they travel to Lake Myrtle Sports Park to take on Penn State Altoona in a nine inning contest at 3:30 PM.
