Baseball Concludes UMPI Series with Day Two Split

Waterville, ME - The Terriers would face The University of Maine Presque Isle Owls on March 30th, playing the final two games of the series at Colby College. The Terriers would win game one of the double header 17-2, but ultimately fell in extra innings in game two 5-6.

How it Happened:

Game One: 17-2 Win (7 innings)
  • The offense came alive early and never let up, using a huge middle innings surge to power a dominant win in the first game of the doubleheader.
  • The scoring started in the second inning when Gavin Clark crossed the plate after Hayden Dippner was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
  •  Moments later, Nick Griffel delivered a clutch two-RBI single to left field, bringing home Mitch Regan and Grady Hotham to extend the lead to 3-0.
  •  The pressure continued as a passed ball allowed Dippner to score, giving the offense early momentum.
  • The third inning broke the game wide open, with Regan knocking an RBI single to right field that scored Gus Hollen.
  • Shortly after, Hotham stole home in a heads-up play. From there, the lineup kept rolling.
  • Dippner added an RBI single scoring Regan, and Griffel picked up another RBI knock scoring Dippner.
  • Cagnina ripped an RBI double down the left field line scoring Griffel, then Ajay Rychcik capped the inning with an RBI single scoring Cagnina.
  • By the end of the inning, the team had piled on a massive rally and taken full control leading 10-0.
  • The Owls would bring one run back in the top of the fourth.
  • The fifth inning added even more insurance runs, fueled by aggressive base running and defensive miscues.
  •  Multiple runs came across on passed balls and an error scoring Regan, Griffel, Rychcik, and Cagnina.
  •  Gus Hollen hitting a double scoring Zeke Rand.
  • Hotham's two-RBI double scoring Hollen and Gavin Clark highlighting the frame, pushing the lead to 17-1.
  • The scoring wrapped up in the seventh when the Owls scored one run to make it a 17-2 game.
