Lyons Brothers Lead Men's Lacrosse to 15-8 Conference Win Over MCLA

North Adams, MA - Men's Lacrosse earned its 1st North Atlantic Conference win of the season in its conference opener over the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, defeating the Trailblazers by a final score of 15-8 on Saturday, March 28th. Brothers Wyatt Lyons (4 goals, 1 assist) and Owen Lyons (4 goals, 2 assists) led the Terriers offense in the win over the Trailblazers with 11 combined points, while Hunter Simpson and Juan Otero led the defensive efforts with 5 combined caused turnovers.

How it Happened:
  • The Terriers claimed an early 1-0 advantage in the opening minutes 1st thanks to a quick goal from Dustyn Hinkley assisted by W. Lyons.
  • W. Lyons (assisted by Nicholas Pike) and Jack Morrill pushed the Terriers lead to three goals in the following minutes, scoring back-to-back goals less than 10 seconds apart.
  • O. Lyons extended the Terriers lead to four goals midway through the 1st quarter off a Pike assist, but a quick response from the Trailblazers minutes later made it a 4-1 game.
  • However, O. Lyons second goal of the day (assisted by Connor Hamilton) in the final minutes of the 1st gave the Terriers a 5-1 lead heading into the 2nd quarter.
  • MCLA opened the 2nd quarter with a quick man-down goal to cut into the Terriers lead.
  • But the Terriers were quick to respond, with Tyler Lydon finding the back of the net just minutes later to give the Terriers a 6-2 advantage.
  • MCLA looked to flip the momentum of the game with two unanswered goals midway through the 2nd, but a late strike from O. Lyons (assisted by Morrill) in the final minutes of the quarter sent the Terriers into the half up 7-4.
  • The Trailblazers cut the Terriers lead to just two goals with a quick strike in the opening minute of the 3rd quarter.
  • But back-to-back strikes from Hunter Simpson (assisted by Connor Hamilton) and Hinkley extended the Terriers lead to four goals in the following minutes.
  • MCLA continued to cut into their deficit in the following minutes with another goal,
  • But the Terriers continued to answer back, closing out the 3rd quarter with two unanswered goals thanks to O. Lyons (assisted by Simon Lanigan) and W. Lyons (assisted by Hamilton), giving Thomas an 11–6 lead heading into the final quarter of play.
  • The Trailblazers found the back of the net twice in the fourth quarter, but four combined goals from W. Lyons and Jesse Sag (off assists from O. Lyons and Pike) helped the Terriers pull away and secure a 15–8 North Atlantic Conference win over MCLA.
