Lyndonville, VT - Men's Basketball traveled to Vermont State University-Lyndon for a North Atlantic Conference match-up on Tuesday, February 10th, earning a crucial 109-96 road victory over the Hornets. Junior guard
Jayden Desimone led the offensive surge with a season-high 34 points, while fellow guards
TJ Blackmon and
Isaiah Godley added 20 and 18 points, respectively.
How it Happened:
- The Hornets jumped out to an early 4-0 lead off the opening tip, but buckets from Blackmon and Godley got the Terriers offense going shortly afterward.
- Both teams traded points in the ensuing minutes, but a small scoring run from the Hornets put the Terriers down 10-16 with 14:30 left in the half.
- But the Terriers responded midway through the first half, using a 10-2 run fueled by Desimone, Isaiah Corson, and Jayden Kim to take a 26-23 lead.
- The Hornets chipped away at their lead in the following minutes, but made free throws from Blackmon and Desimone three-pointer kept the lead with the Terriers.
- Yasmo Mohamud kept the Terriers offense going late in the 1st half with back-to-back layups, but the Hornets continued to find response to keep it a one possession game.
- Both the Terriers and the Hornets were knotted up at 46-46 with just over a minute to play in the 1st half, but a 7-0 run from Kim and Godley to close the half put the Terriers up 53-47 after 20 minutes of play.
- The Terriers continued to build momentum in the opening minutes of the 2nd half, with Blackmon, Payton Mitchell and Brady Adams combining for 15 points in four minutes to extend the Terriers lead to twelve points.
- Buckets from Blackmon, Desimone and Spencer Minihan gave the Terriers a 75-61 lead minutes later.
- The Hornets attempted to shift the momentum midway through the second half, putting together a small scoring run that cut the Terriers' lead to single digits.
- But the Terriers found a response with a small run of their own thanks to Godley and Desimone to make it a 89-79 game with minutes remaining in the half.
- The Hornets continued to chip away at their deficit late in the second half, but clutch baskets from Desimone, Godley, and Blackmon ultimately put the game out of reach as the Terriers secured a 109-96 North Atlantic Conference victory.
