10/5/2026 10:51:00 AM

Charlestown, MA - Men's Ice Hockey opened their season on the road against the defending NECHA Champions, Wentworth Institute of Technology on Saturday, October 3rd, 2026.

How it Happened:
  • The Terriers opened the scoring 10 minutes into the game as Quinn Hawley buried a goal assisted by Jack Perron and Caleb Micklon.
  • The Leopards responded four minutes later, and the teams went to the locker room tied 1-1 after the first period.
  • It would be the Terriers that came out of the break ready to go. Caleb Micklon found the back of the net five minutes into the period on assists from Ian McClatchy and Tyler Gay.
  • Just 11 seconds later it was Micklon once again adding to the lead thanks to assists from Kyle Charbonneau and Jack Perron.
  • The Terriers weren't done as Hawley broke down the right sideboard and beat the goaltender to put the Terriers up 4-1, just four minutes after Micklons pair of goals.
  • The Leopards ended up cashing in on a power play goal and the Terriers went to the break with a 4-2 lead.
  • Once again it was Thomas that came out flying, and just 40 seconds into the third period Hunter Coughlin sniped a shot over the goalie putting the Terriers up 5-2.
  • Wentworth didn't quit as they cut the lead to 5-3 a couple of minutes later.
  • Despite heavy pressure that is how the game ended.
  • Goaltender Matt D'Ortona was outstanding in net making 36 saves on 39 shots and received player of the game honors from his teammates.
  • Head Men's Ice Hockey Coach Joey Waraskevich had this to say about the 2026 season opener: "The guys have worked incredibly hard these last few weeks to prepare for this season and to see that hard work be rewarded is awesome. There is plenty to work on, but we just beat an excellent team so we're going to enjoy the win and get back to work on Monday,"
