Thomas College Esports Week of 10/22/26 Recap

10/27/2026 8:14:00 AM

This week's Thomas Esports matches should have begun with the Thomas Valorant team facing off against the Northeastern Huskies. Unfortunately for the Northeastern squad, they were not able to field enough players for the match and had to forfeit.

Next on the docket was the undefeated Thomas SSBU team up against the undefeated WVU Tech Golden Bears. Both teams were the only remaining undefeated rosters in the group and this was clear for all to see as it was an absolute slugfest. The Terriers came out of the gates hot with a dominant performance from Bobby "2Fast4U" Withee on Sonic. Bobby single handedly took down the entire WVU Tech team going 12 stocks to 2. Game two was the grittiest game of the set with both teams going back and forth and things coming down to the last hit of the last stock, which went WVU's way. The series now tied up 1-1, momentum now favored the Golden Bears. With this momentum, and an early deficit for the Terriers, things began to slip away, with WVU Tech closing the series out with a 12-8 win and 2-1 series win over Thomas SSBU.

Marvel Rivals yet again lost in a close 3-2 series this week to Landmark College. The game mode Domination continues to be the Terriers major weakness with them dropping 2 maps on that mode. The Terriers also experimented moving Tristan to DPS and Rowan to Supp as Rowan's Blade continues to be the target ban. With Blade being banned the Terriers have struggled to output enough damage to warrant Rowan on the lone dps and Tristan provides more flexibility and damage output. Once again the series was back and forth with the Terriers taking map 2 and the sharks taking map 3 and once again the Terriers taking map 4. These wins came from target bans in the ban phase as well as counter comps such as punisher rocket to counter the sharks dino. The Terriers struggle to adapt midgame though and rely a lot on coach Johnny to give them ideal matchups and bans after the map is over and lost. With map 5 being control the Terriers had little hope in winning the series as they have yet to win a domination map in a regular game this season. It was an easy win for the sharks and they took home the series 3-2. The Terriers look to get some wins in the next few weeks to finish off their season.

Thomas Rocket League was up next with their matchup against the University of Massachusetts Boston. The Beacons were undefeated on the season with a record of 3-0 and the Terriers just behind with their own record of 2-1. The first match of the series was fairly close, with both teams showing signs of brilliance. Battling back and forth eventually something had to give, and that was the defense of the Beacons. Thomas took game one 5-3, and from this point forward, never looked back. Through the rest of the series, Thomas outscored UMass 12-7 with game scores of 4-1, 3-2, and 5-4. Thomas improved their record to 3-1 with this 4-0 victory over UMass Boston and positioned themselves in a great spot as they look to finish out their regular season and aim towards playoffs.

Overwatch Black continued its dominant run in the division with a 3-0 series win over University of Massachusetts Boston. The Terriers started the series up 1-0 in a map forfeit after UMB fielded an unranked player, which violates NECC rules. Although the rules technically called for a series forfeit, the Terriers opted to play the match, allowing the series to continue. The second map took place on Route 66, where the Terriers banned Roadhog to give Neon's Doomfist more room to shine. UMB struggled to handle the pressure from Neon, who worked alongside Tristan and Marcus to help secure another map win for the Terriers. The series moved to Eichenwalde for map three, where the Terriers once again ran a composition built around Cat, Doctor, and Neon's Doomfist. This time, UMB had Roadhog and Kiriko to help counter Neon's aggressive playstyle. The map was a close battle, with both teams trading team-fight wins and successfully completing their attacks. Thomas entered its final attack with a slight advantage, having an additional 30 seconds on the clock. UMB attacked first, and the Terriers narrowly held them to just 33% capture progress. Thomas then surpassed that mark with ease on its attack, closing out the map and securing the 3-0 series victory. The win improves Overwatch Black's record to 4-0, keeping the Terriers at the top of their division.
