Waterville, MEÂ - Men's Rugby would host the College of Holy Cross Crusaders in their first official matchup of their inaugural season. Despite a promising showing of grit and determination from a developing squad, the Terriers would be defeated by an official score of 3-52. Late in the sceond half the teams switched to played with 10 players a side, and the final unofficial score was 17-76.
How it Happened:
- Holy Cross would strike first with a try and conversion to make it a 0-7 game.
- But a converted penalty by Conor Tierney shortly after would make it a 3-7 game, giving the Terriers their first points of the inaugural season.
- Tierney would have another penalty opportunity for the Terriers in the 20th minute, but would be unable to capitalize.Â
- With the official final score 3-52 a mercy rule was placed in, but both teams agreed to continue play with 10 players per team instead of 15.
- Grey Laczowski would make history for the Terriers in the 60th minute of the second half, scoring the first try ever for the Terriers, with Tierney converting on the conversion.
- Ethan Carson would work his way through the Holy Cross defense late in the second, scoring try for the Terriers with Laczowski converting on the conversion attempt as well.
- Despite the gritty showing from a developing Terriers squad, Holy Cross would ultimately take a 17-76 unofficial victory.
