Oberholzer Earns 100th Career Hit While Softball Sweeps UMPI in DH's

Presque Isle, ME – The Terriers traveled to the University of Maine at Presque Isle for a North Atlantic Conference doubleheader and emerged victorious in both games, winning Game 1 with a dominant 15-4 performance and Game 2 with a solid 5-2 victory.

Senior Kayla Duhaime shined in Game 1 with two home runs, bringing her career total to eight. Meanwhile, junior Megan Oberholzer celebrated a career milestone with her 100th hit during her final at-bat in Game 2. Earlier this season, Oberholzer also reached her 100th career strikeout, marking a stellar third year of collegiate play.

Game 1: Thomas 15, UMPI 4

How It Happened:
  • The Terriers came out strong, scoring four runs in the first inning. Senior Kayla Duhaime launched a three-run homer to bring in Carlie Jarvais and Mackenzie Toner. Teresa McLinden and Brooklyn Federico followed with singles, and Corrine Vasvary's RBI capped the inning at 4-0.
  • After a scoring lull, Thomas struck again in the fifth inning. With two outs, Jarvais singled and scored on Oberholzer's double to center, extending the lead to 5-0.
  • Toner's leadoff double in the sixth, combined with Federico's RBI hit, started another rally. The inning escalated with Duhaime's second home run, a two-run shot, bringing the score to 10-0.
  • UMPI rallied briefly in the sixth, scoring three runs on errors and hits, cutting the deficit to 10-3.
  • Thomas responded with five more runs in the seventh, highlighted by hits from Oberholzer and Jarvais, and errors from the Owls. UMPI managed one run in their final at-bat, but the game ended 15-4.

How It Happened:
  • Thomas struck early, with a Toner double scoring Oberholzer to make it 1-0.
  • In the second inning, errors proved costly for UMPI. Emily Rock reached on an error and scored on Vasvary's single. Leah Knight followed with a double to left, bringing in Vasvary to make it 3-0.
  • UMPI answered in the fifth with a two-run home run, narrowing the score to 3-2.
  • Knight delivered in the sixth with a two-RBI triple, scoring Rock and Vasvary to put Thomas ahead 5-2.
  • In her final at-bat in the seventh, Oberholzer recorded her 100th career hit with a single to right-center. Thomas' defense held strong to secure the win.

  • Addy Boyce: Pitched the complete game, striking out five and allowing two walks.
  • Leah Knight: Went 2-3 with a double, a triple, and 3 RBIs.
  • Corrine Vasvary: Contributed 2-3 with an RBI and two runs scored.
