Men's Basketball Unable to Secure Meader Cup Against UMF in Overtime Thriller

Waterville, ME - Men's Basketball hosted the University of Maine–Farmington in the third annual Meader Cup on Friday, December 5th, but ultimately fell to the Beavers in a 98–99 overtime thriller. Despite the narrow loss, TJ Blackmon, Isaiah Godley, and Yasmo Mohamud would lead the Terriers in scoring, combining for 66 points against the Beavers.

How it Happened:
  • Both the Terriers and the Beavers would trade baskets to open the first half, but the Terriers would find themselves down 4-13 minutes later.
  • But buckets from Blackmon, Mohamud and Isiah Corson would cut the Terriers deficit to just three points shortly after.
  • The Beavers would continue to try and extend their lead midway through the first half, but a strong finish in the paint from Blackmon, and a jumper made beyond the arc from Nate Hebert would keep it a one possession game.
  • Ibrahim Doumbouya and Blackmon would keep the offense rolling late in the first half, scoring a combined 10 points in less than two minutes to claim a 29-28 lead.
  • The Beavers would reclaim the lead late in the first half, but key buckets from Blackmon, Mohamud, Jayden Desimone, and Jayden Kim would make it 41-44 game heading into halftime.
  • Godley and Hebert would get the Terriers on the board in the opening minutes of the second half with quick buckets.
  • But an 11-0 run by the Beavers shortly after would put the Terriers down double digits with just over 12 minutes remaining in regulation.
  • The Terriers would find a response minutes later with a scoring run of their own thanks to Blackmon and Godley, combining for 11 points in three minutes to cut the Terriers deficit to just four points.
  • UMF would maintain a late 66-67 lead in a tightly contested second half, but a huge three pointer from Spencer Minihan would put the Terriers ahead by two points with just over four minutes to play.
  • The Beavers would reclaim a three point lead with less than 30 seconds to play in regulation, but Godley would come in clutch for the Terriers with a tough and-one finish in the paint to force the first overtime in Meader Cup history.
  • UMF would reclaim the lead midway through the overtime period, but Godley and Payton Mitchell would keep the Terriers in the game with strong buckets in the paint.
  • Three-pointers from Desimone, Mohamud, and Hebert would cut the Terriers deficit to just two points with 14 seconds to play.
  • But made free-throws in the final seconds of overtime from the Beavers would ultimately put the game out of reach, handing the Terriers a heartbreaking 98-99 nailbiting loss in the third annual Meader Cup.
