Kesse-Beda Pushes Women's Basketball Past UMF 48-43

Waterville, ME - Women's Basketball hosted the University of Maine-Farmington in a North Atlantic Conference match-up on Friday, December 5th, defeating the Beavers in a hard-fought defensive battle by a final score of 48-43. The win over the Beavers marks the Terriers third consecutive win, moving them to 6-3 on the season, and 3-1 in North Atlantic Conference play.

How it Happened:
  • UMF would jump out to an early 6-0 lead to open the first quarter, but a strong bucket in the paint from Roxy Dagostino would get the Terriers on the board shortly after.
  • The Terriers would reclaim the lead midway through the first quarter thanks to a 7-0 run from Kesse-Beda and Dagostino.
  • UMF would cut into their deficit with a late layup, but the Terriers would head into the second quarter with a 10-9 lead.
  • The Beavers would open the second quarter with an early scoring run to reclaim the lead.
  • Despite key buckets from Kesse-Beda late in the first half, the Terriers would ultimately find themselves down 14-18 heading into the half.
  • Dagostino and Alderman would keep the Terriers offense rolling to open the third quarter, each scoring to make it a one-point game.
  • The Terriers would trail by six points midway through the third quarter, but Kesse-Beda and Alderman would continue to find responses, tying the game up at 27-27 late in the quarter.
  • Key buckets to end the quarter from Kaya Loring and Kay McLellan would give the Terriers 33-31 lead heading into the final 10 minutes of play.
  • The Terriers would continue to battle in the fourth, with Alderman and Kesse-Beda helping extend the lead in the early minutes of the quarter.
  • The Beavers would continue to cut into their deficit with just over five minutes to play, but gritty play on both sides of the ball from the Terriers would help maintain their lead late in the quarter.
  • UMF would cut the Terriers lead to just three points with less than a minute to play in regulation.
  • But key free-throws made in the final seconds by Kesse-Beda would put the game out of reach, helping the Terriers earn their fourth straight win by a final score of 48-43.
