Women's Basketball Fall to MMA in Playoff Warmup

Box Score Castine, Maine – Womens Basketball fell short in playoff preview against Maine Maritime Academy, 67-39.
 
How it Happened: 
  • This conference matchup would be a preview of the first round of the NAC playoffs, with a playoff spot secured Terrier Head Coach Jason Coleman was able to get his starters some much needed rest while getting the rest of his roster some valuable experience. 
  • MMA Would jump out to an early 7-2 lead, Deja Hamilton would knock down a jumper and Hana Isahac would follow with a layup to close the gap to 1, MMA would close out the quarter with a 14-4 run.
  • The Mariners would begin the second quarter by going on another run, the would score 12 points while holding Thomas to just 2, Thomas would break the run when Emily Hagerty would make a layup, MMA would miss a three on the other end of the court, on the next Terrier Possession Hagerty would knock down a 3 pointer. Heading into the half MMA led 36-17.
  • Hana Isahac would get the visitors out to a solid start in the 3rd, she made a tough layup, drawing a foul in the process, she would complete the 3point play by knocking down the ensuing free throw. Jay Jordan would then grab a rebound of a missed MMA free throw, her outlet pass found Isahac who ran the court and finished another layup. Hamilton would join in on the scoring when she capitalized on a MMA Turnover and converted the layup. 
  • MMA would control the rest of the 3rd quarter, they would stretch their lead to 24 points and took a 52-28 lead into the 4th. 
  • The Mariners would look to extend their lead early in the 4th but layups by Parent, Isahac and Hamilton would keep the lead from growing, MMA would go on a 11-0 run, the Terriers would close out the game strong with Paige Lafernaye and Kay McLellan hitting a layup and three pointer respectively.
  • Turnovers and Second chance point proved the difference with MMA outscoring the Terriers 23-9 off points on turnovers and 22-6 on second chance points.

What's Next: The Terriers will travel to MMA for the NAC Quarterfinals, they will take on MMA who will be hosting the NAC Eastern Playoffs, Tipoff is scheduled for Friday February 16th time TBD.
