How it Happened:
- Within the two minutes Samantha Thebarge had a quality look on goal, but her shot was saved by the Eagles goalkeeper.
- With five minutes remaining in the first quarter the Eagles struck first to take a 1-0 lead.
- Despite a blocked shot from Julia Reny late in the quarter, the Terriers found themselves down headed into the second.
- Three minutes in to the second quarter Kara Richards had a shot on goal that was saved by the Eagles goalkeeper.
- The Eagles looked to pounce on several penalty quarters throughout the quarter, but the Terriers defense held strong.
- With two minutes remaining in the first half Hilary Howard found Maci Freeman, who scored to tie things at 1-1.
- The Terriers started the third quarter relatively well, generating three shots five minutes in.
- With five minutes remaining in the third the Eagles struck again to make it 2-1.
- Despite the goal, the Terriers were on a mission early in the fourth.
- The fourth shot in four minutes finally found the back of the net, with Leah Knight finding Avery Herrick to make it 2-2.
- The Terriers defense was able to defend against four penalty corners from the Eagles following the goal.
- Terriers goalkeeper Elise Syphers was able to provide two good saves to keep the Terriers in it.
- The game then headed to overtime, where neither team could break the deadlock at 2-2.
- Following the two overtimes the teams went to a best-of-five penalty shootout.
- Despite two good saves from Syphers the Terriers eventually fell 3-2 in the shootout.
- Despite the loss, Field Hockey had an impressive season, finishing with a 10-7 record and a 3-1 regular season conference record.
- During the awards ceremony Reny, Freeman, Thebarge, and Paige Gilbert were all named to the 2024 CMCFHC All-Tournament team thanks to their outstanding play.
