Alderman’s 24 Points Not Enough as Terriers Drop Nail-Biter to Plymouth State

Waterville, Maine – Thomas Women's Basketball would take on the Plymouth State Panthers in game two of the Gene DeLorenzo Tip-Off Tournament at Colby College and would trail by 1 point in the final minute of play. But the Terriers would be unable to overcome the Panthers in the final seconds and would be defeated by a score of 53-52 on Sunday, November 18th.

Records:

Thomas: Overall (0-5)

Plymouth State: Overall (2-2)

How it Happened:

  • The Terriers would start the first quarter hot, jumping out to a 7-2 lead midway through the first quarter, with buckets from Elena Alderman, Sky Kubwalo, and Mollie Gray
  • But the Panthers would pick up the pace near the end of the first and would take an 8-7 lead after ten minutes of play.
  • Alderman would take control of the Terrier's offense in the second quarter, hitting four three-pointers and scoring 12 of the 15 points scored for the Terriers in the second quarter.
  • The Terriers would trail Plymouth State by a score of 26-22 at the half.
  • Kubwalo, Alderman, and Holly Loring started the Terriers' offense early in the second half and would tie the game at 31-31 midway through the third quarter.
  • Both teams would continue to trade points late in the quarter, but the Panthers would finish the third leading by four points.
  • Loring and Gray kept the game within reach early in the fourth quarter by finding responses to the Panthers' offense.
  • The Terriers would trail by 3 points with just over one minute to play, but Loring would give the Terriers life with a key layup to cut the deficit to just one point.
  • Thomas would cause a turnover shortly after Loring's layup and would have a chance to win the game with a late possession.
  • But the Panthers shut down the Terrier's offense in the final seconds of play and would hold on to hand the Terriers a 53-52 loss in a nail-biting finish.
