Men's Ice Hockey Falls in Overtime to Dartmouth

11/17/2024 8:36:00 PM

Hannover, NH - Men's Ice Hockey traveled to Dartmouth to battle with the Big Green in a divisional matchup.

How it Happened:
  • The Terriers came off the bus flying in the first period and controlled play throughout, however it was Dartmouth that would strike first with 1:01 remaining in the first and they would find themselves up 1-0 heading to the break.
  • Once again the Terriers came out strong in the second and early in the period.
  • Tyler Gay tied the game at 1-1 on a feed from Caleb Micklon and Ryan Thibault.
  • The game went back and forth until the 12-minute mark when Quinn Hawley buried a shot past Dartmouth Goaltender Graham Webber.
  • A breakdown gave Dartmouth a breakaway and they took advantage, tying the game at 2-2.  That's how the second period would end.
  • It was Dartmouth that would strike first in the third, 64 seconds into the period.
  • As they had before the Terriers carried the play and finally were able to break through on a goal from Nick Fischetto, assisted by Bjorn Brickett.
  • A flurry of chances from both teams ensued, but it was Dartmouth that went ahead 4-3 on a goal from Spencer Watson with just 3:47 left in the game.
  • There was no quit in the Terriers however, and just as they pulled goaltender Matt D'Ortona for the extra attacker Aaron Whitley found the back of the net stunning the home crowd and tying the score 4-4. Danny Fuller and DJ Cagnina assisted on the goal.
  • The teams were destined for overtime and the regular season overtime format of 3 v 3 didn't lack excitement.
  • Both teams had excellent puck control when they had possession and Micklon almost ended the game, as he got the puck behind Webber but somehow it never crossed the goal line and play continued.
  • With 2:32 remaining in OT the Big Green got behind the Terriers defense and were able to beat D'Ortona and get the 5-4 win.
  • D'Ortona was great in net recording 34 saves, many that were point blank.

What's Next:
  •  The Terriers are back in action Saturday, November 23rd as they face Springfield at the Thomas College Ice Vault at 5:30PM.
