Women’s Basketball Overwhelmed by Westfield State in 91-70 Defeat

Waterville, Maine – Terriers Women's Basketball would face off against the Westfield State University Owls in their first game of the Gene DeLorenzo Tip Off Tournament but would be unable to find a response to the Owls offense and would be defeated by a score of 91-70 on Saturday, November 16th.

Thomas: Overall (0-4)  

Westfield State: (2-0) 

How it Happened: 

  • The Terriers and the Owls would go back and forth offensively early in the first quarter, but a 7-0 run from Westfield State would give the Owls a 15-8 lead midway through the first quarter.

  • But 7 combined points late in the quarter from Kay McLellan and Annabelle Morris would put the Terriers behind just four points at the end of the first quarter.

  • Westfield State would start the second quarter hot, opening with a 9-0 run in the first 2 minutes of the second quarter. 

  • The Terriers would try to build momentum late in the second with points from Morris, Mollie Gray and Elena Alderman, but the Owls offense would continue to stay hot and would take a 42-30 lead at the half. 

  • Early points in the third quarter from Alderman and Sky Kubwalo would give the Terriers some momentum, but the Owls offense would not let up, going on a 13-0 run shortly after.

  • McLellan and Sarah Davis would combine for 7 points in the final minutes of the third quarter, but the Owls would hold a 76-43 lead after 30 minutes of play.

  • Westfield State would take control of the remainder of the game on both ends of the floor, and would hand the Terriers a 91-70 defeat in their first game of the Gene DeLorenzo Tip Off Tournament.

What's Next:  
The Terriers will look to bounce back in game two of the Gene DeLorenzo Tip Off Tournament. Tip-Off is scheduled for Sunday, November 17th at 12 PM, with an opponent to be announced soon.
