Box Score Bangor, ME – The Men's Basketball Team traveled to Husson University after playing at home against the Eagles the night before. The Terriers kept the game close during the first half but could not keep momentum, dropping the conference game 91-76 to Husson.
How it Happened:
- The Terriers started off the game with a 7-0 run lead by Metin Yavuz.
- Graduate Student Cooper Wirkala kept the Terriers momentum going by adding two baskets behind the arc within seconds of each other.
- Thomas found themselves leading 15-2 five minutes into the game, but the Eagles would go on a 9-point run before the Terriers next point slimming the Thomas lead to 18-11.
- With ten minutes into the first half remaining the teams found themselves tied at 20.
- Missed shots by the Terriers would cause the Eagles to grow their first lead of the night to a 10-point difference.
- Multiple Terriers would help keep the lead from getting away, but many shots taken by the Terriers were just unable to finish in the basket.
- Husson would lead 49-37 at halftime.
- Although the Terriers did not fall further behind at the start of the second half, they were unable to get stops, resulting in an expanded lead by the Eagles.
- As the gap quickly started to grow, Thomas did not get many made shot opportunities until the final ten minutes of the game.
- Sophomore Gianni Ungaro would be a player off the bench that added much needed points later the game, along with Landen Gabric.
- Troy Tinch and Jacob Bouchard also helped to finish out the game, but ultimately the Eagles took the win 91-76.
Inside the Stats:
Wirkala finished the game with 14 points, he was closely followed by Yavuz with 11. Wirkala, Yavuz, and Tinch all finished the game with four rebounds, three defensive and one offensive, each.
