Men’s Soccer Blanked by Rivals Colby College

Waterville, ME – Men's Soccer was blanked and unable to get a foothold in their match against Colby College, falling 0-4 on Tuesday, September 3rd, 2023. 
 
Thomas College: Overall (0-2-1), NAC (0-0)  
Colby College: Overall (1-0-0) 
 
How it Happened:  
  • The first 45 minutes were somewhat contested, with the tempo of the game increasing with every passing minute.
  • Both teams traded time with possession, but neither were able to take advantage early in the game.
  • In the 32nd minute, the Mules took a 1-0 lead after a flurry of two shots in under a minute. 
  • Seven minutes after halftime, the Mules struck again to make the score 0-2.
  • Within another six minutes, the Mules had scored their third, with Terriers goalkeeper Matthew Gosselin making two important saves in-between the two goals.
  • The Mules added one more goal in the 78th minute, a finish into the right corner.
  • A spectacular double-save by Gosselin closed out the game, 0-4 in favor of the Mules. 
  • The Terriers ended the day with a total of two shots, compared to the Mules 31. 
 
The Goalkeepers:  
Two Terrier keepers saw time in net tonight. Keein Wright started and played the first 45 minutes, making five saves. Gosselin played the final 45 minutes, making seven saves. Both keepers made some important saves, despite the score line. 
Mules keeper Brendan McCarthy got the start in net, playing the first 80 minutes. Gus Canfalone replaced McCarthy for the final 10 minutes. Both keepers made a combined one save. 
 
What's Next:
The Terriers look to bounce back against the University of Maine Presque Isle at home, on September 9th, 2023. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:30 PM.
