Field Hockey Shuts Down VTSU Castleton After First Quarter but Falls 5-1

Box Score Castleton, VT – The Terriers spent their second day on the road at Vermont State University Castleton. The final score was 5-1 but Thomas out preformed the Spartans in the final three quarters, earning 16 penalty corners to Castleton's 3 and out shooting them 21-14.

How it Happened:
  • The Terriers not yet adjusting, the Spartans were able to get four total goals scored in the first fifteen minutes.
  • Castleton then earned a penalty stroke early in the second quarter, getting their fifth and final goal of the game.
  • Ten minutes before halftime, Leah Knight takes the ball from the fifty all the way to the endline, making a pass right in front for Avery Herrick to knock in earning the Terriers loan goal for the day.
  • Thomas momentum shifts after halftime as the Terriers had strong offensive pressure, with nine penalty corners in the third quarter, four of them being back-to-back.
  • Even with the majority of possession in the third and fourth a strong Spartan defense stay contained and kept the Terriers to just one.

Goalkeepers:
Junior Elise Syphers played the full sixty minutes making eleven saves. Spartan keeper Zoe Martin also played the full game making nine saves.

What is Next:
Field Hockey will stay on the road, playing Rivier University in Nashua, New Hampshire on Tuesday, September 26th at 6pm.
