Men’s Basketball Comes Up Short in Final Minute vs UMPI

Box Score Waterville, ME – Men's Basketball celebrated their Senior Day for Nicholas Brewer and Matthew Hadnot on their final home game Saturday, February 4th against the University of Maine Presque Isle Owls. The Terriers led the entire second half, but came up one point short in the final minute losing 71-70.
 
The Records:

Thomas College: Overall (3-19), NAC (1-12)
University of Maine Presque Isle: Overall (8-13), NAC (5-6)
 
How it Happened:
  • The Terriers got off to a slow start, but thanks to Hadnot as he got his team going, getting the Terriers first six points and tying the game before, Parker Desjardins and Jacob Bouchard were able to switch the pace gaining the lead for the Terriers, 17-9
  • The Owls did not let the Terriers lead get away from them as they tied it back up at 30 with two minutes remaining in the first
  • A handful of Terriers were able to go on a seven point run before halftime, putting Thomas up 37-30 after the first twenty minutes
  • The Terriers were able to stay up thanks to solid offensive plays from Rico Limcaoco, Sawyer Deprey, Desjardins, and Hadnot
  • After a few missed shots in the final five minutes the Owls tied the game up at 64 with two minutes remaining
  • Four good back to back free throws from Desjardins and Hadnot help give the Terriers room while going into the final minute
  • Not backing down UMPI added five more points with two good free throws then a layup and plus one from the foul, putting them up by one,69-68
  • Kory Winch gave the Terriers their final points at thirty seconds, but a good final layup in the final seconds from the Owls gave them the 71-70 win
 
Inside the Numbers:
  • Desjardins finished with a great night, with twenty-one points, and the Terriers high from rebounds at ten
  • Hadnot also finished in the double digits with points at twenty, then eight rebounds
  • Both James Thomas Phelan and Jacob Bouchard ended the night with three steals, as eighteen of the Terriers points came from turnovers
What is Next:
Men's Basketball will travel to New England College on Tuesday, February 7th  to play the Pilgrims at 7pm.
