Owls Soar Past Terriers in 90-81 Loss

PRESQUE ISLE, MAINE – The Thomas College Men's Basketball team were shut down by the University of Maine Presque Isle Owls on Tuesday, December 5th by a score of 91-80.  

RECORDS: 

THOMAS: OVERALL (2-6) 

UMPI: OVERALL (3-6) 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • The Terriers would lead early, going on a 6-0 run with a layup by Junior Metin Yavuz and 4 points in the paint from Graduate Student Cooper Wirkala 

  • The Owls would answer back with a small run of their own, but Wirkala and Junior Parker Desjardins would answer right back each hitting a three-pointer of their own to give the Terriers a 14-6 lead 

  • UMPI's offense would start to warm up, cutting the Terrier's lead to only 5 points with 10 minutes remaining in the first half and would eventually take the lead back with 7 minutes remaining in the first half 

  • Yavuz and Wirkala would continue to fuel the Terrier's offense, scoring a combined 10 points in the last 4 minutes of the half 

  • The Terriers would trail the Owls 43-37 after one-half of regulation 

  • Junior Luke Gabloff would get the Terriers offense going in the 2nd half with a 3-pointer off a Yavuz steal to cut the deficit to 3 points 

  • The Owls were quick to respond on both ends of the floor with a 10-0 run to make it 53-42 with 14 minutes to play 

  • Junior Jackson Ruelke would rally the Terrier's offense scoring 6 straight points with 11 minutes remaining to cut the deficit to 5-points 

  • The Terriers would trail UMPI by 6 points with 4 minutes to play, but the Owls would hold on to hand the Terriers a 91-80 loss
