Bangor, ME – The Husson University Eagles slipped by the Terriers in the North Atlantic Conference Field Hockey Championship game 2-1 on Sunday, October 29
th, 2023.

Husson University: Overall (9-5) NAC (6-0)
How it Happened:
- The Terriers got off to a hot start, dominating the majority of the first quarter action.
- The Terriers were awarded a penalty corner three minutes into the game and looked primed to take an early lead. Shots from Kayci Faulkingham and Paige Gilbert forced two saves from Eagles goalie Kimmie Goddard.
- Two minutes later Julia Reny found Samantha Thebarge, who scored to take an important 1-0 lead over the Eagles.
- The Terriers took five more shots in the first quarter, but none were able to find the back of the Eagles net.
- The Terriers didn't allow the Eagles a single shot or penalty corner throughout the entire first quarter, an impressive feat.
- Going into the second quarter, the Terriers continued to dominate the run of play. The Terriers earned two penalty corners in the first five minutes but weren't able to capitalize.
- With three minutes to play in the second quarter, the Eagles had their first chances of the game.
- Two Eagles shots forced two back-to-back saves from Terriers goalie Elise Syphers, but on the third attempt an Eagles player found the back of the net to tie the game up at 1-1.
- The Eagles came out of halftime on a mission, looking like a totally different team. Syphers was forced to make three saves in three minutes, while another Eagles shot hit the post.
- The Eagles would eventually find the breakthrough with five minutes left to play in the third quarter after a defensive save by Riley Enright to take 2-1 lead.
- The Terriers had added motivation in the fourth quarter, and it showed. Goddard was forced to make a big save five minutes into the quarter to preserve the lead.
- The last chance for the Terriers came with five minutes remaining in the game. A penalty corner from Molly Littlefield eventually found Thebarge, but Goddard once again came up big in net for the Eagles.
- Neither team could generate any clear chances in the final five minutes, and the game ended in a 1-2 loss for the Terriers.
- The Terries had 14 penalty corners compared to the Eagles three, but were outshot 15-12 through the game.
The Goalkeepers:
Syphers played the entire 60 minutes in net for the Terriers, making seven important saves.
Eagles goalie Goddard also played all 60 minutes, making eight saves to preserve the win.
