Big Second Half Propels Women’s Soccer to Win Versus Hornets

Lyndonville, VT – A big second half helped propel Women's Soccer to a big 4-0 victory versus Vermont State University Lyndon on Saturday, October 14th, 2023.

Vermont State University Lyndon: Overall (1-10), NAC (0-6)

How it Happened:  
  • The Terriers opened up the game with eight shots in 20 minutes, forcing Hornet goalkeeper Karly Cordwell to make four saves.  
  • Emily Gutierrez dominated play in the first half, taking five shots in the first 45 minutes.
  • The Terrier defense were able to limit the Hornets to just one off-target shot in the first half.
  • However, the Terriers were unable to find the breakthrough goal in the first half, with the game tied 0-0 after 45 minutes.
  • Two minutes into the second half, Gutierrez played in a ball to Aminah Davis-Macias, who found the back of the net to give the Terriers a 1-0 lead.
  • In the 57th minute, a good pass from Serenia Ahumada found Mary LaRochelle to double the lead.
  • The Terriers never looked back, with Davis-Macias scoring two minutes later. 
  • In the 62nd minute, the Hornets were able to generate a chance. A hornet shot was headed toward the bottom right side of the Terrier goal, but Emily Rock was able to make the save to preserve the shutout.
  • Davis-Macias was able to complete the hat trick in the 85th minute, capping a dominant performance in the 4-0 win.
  • The Terriers outshot the Hornets 28-5 in an important North Atlantic Conference matchup.
The Goalkeepers:  

Rock played the entire 90 minutes in net, only needing to make two saves. 

Cordwell also played the full 90 minutes, making an impressive 18 saves in the loss. 
 
What's Next:

The Terriers will look to continue their success as they take on Maine Maritime Academy at home on October 18th, 2023. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:00 PM.
