Women's Basketball Falls Short to SUNY Poly in Close Match-Up

Box Score Waterville, ME – Terriers kept up a strong fight with defending NAC Champions SUNY Poly, tying the game five times all in the second half. Elena Alderman had her break out game of her freshman career landing sixteen points for the Terriers.

SUNY Poly: Overall (5-8), NAC (3-1)
 
How it Happened:
  • The first quarter started rather slow for both teams, and a total of nine points from the Terriers. Two from Brianne Benecke, a jumper from Alderman, three-pointer from Hannah Coolen, and finishing layup from Mia Henderson, 12-9 SUNY Poly
  • Continuing to fight for the lead both Alderman and Keira Gilman put up threes to take the Wildcats lead to only 1, 18-17 SUNY Poly
  • Missed opportunities from both teams lead to low scoring from both teams in the rest of the second, finishing 28-22 SUNY Poly going into the half
  • Nine points right off the bat in the third half put the Terriers in their first lead of the night 31-29
  • Before ending the third the Wildcats put up a fight taking back the lead with a seven point advantage, 38-31 SUNY Poly
  • A combination of shots from Samantha Fortin and Trea Broussard, and two good threes again from Alderman and Gilman gained the Terriers the lead before heading into the fourth, 41-39 Thomas
  • Great defense from the Wildcats gave Terriers shooters a difficult time getting many shots up in the fourth causing others to make standout shots
  • Fighting until the last second, Terriers ending with a loss of 62-53
 
Inside the Numbers:
  • Gilman had a strong night with eight points, and six assists
  • Both Fortin (eight points) and Benecke (seven points) had nine rebounds
  • Sixteen of the Terriers points came from Turnovers
 
What is Next:
Terriers take the next six days before heading to Vermont to play NVU – Johnson on Friday, January 13th at 5:30pm
