Women's lacrosse drops tight battle to Cazenovia

CAZENOVIA, N.Y. - Women's lacrosse lost a heartbreaker to Cazenovia College on Saturday afternoon, falling 15-14 on the road.

The first quarter was a back-and-forth battle, the Wildcats scored the first two goals, but Alia Chasse (Sanford, Maine) and Lauren Bartlett (Wells, Maine) answered for the Terriers to tie up the game. Harley Eldridge gave Cazenovia the lead with 3:06 but Thomas would again answer with two goals of their own to end the period and take their first lead of the game. Bartlett scored with 1:23 remaining in the quarter with an assist from Mary LaRochelle (Woolwich, Maine). 39 seconds later, the roles reversed and LaRochelle scored with the assist from Bartlett.

Neither team scored for the first half of the second quarter. Chasse found the net for the third time in the second quarter off of a free position shot at 8:42 for the first goal of the quarter. Scarlett Raymond-Ayer (Hallowell, Maine) scored 47 seconds later to give the Terriers a 7-4 lead. The Wildcats dug in deep and scored three of the last four goals in the half to cut Thomas' lead back down to one before halftime.

Thomas buckled down in the third quarter holding Cazenovia to two goals while scoring four of their own to take a 12-9 lead into the final quarter. LaRochelle and Chasse combined to score all four goals in the third quarter. Unfortunately for the Terriers the Wildcats offense came alive in the fourth quarter, netting a game high six goals in the quarter, and Thomas fell 15-14.

LaRochelle led the Terriers' offense with four goals and four assists while Chasse contributed five goals. Lizzy Gotay (Guilderland, N.Y.) played the entire game in net for Thomas, making seven saves.

UP NEXT: The Terriers will wrap up their New York trip tomorrow when they play at noon against SUNY Poly.
