Women's lacrosse wins in convincing fashion against UMaine Farmington

WATERVILLE, Maine – Thomas women's lacrosse won in convincing fashion against University of Maine Farmington on Wednesday afternoon, 15-8.

The Terriers were able to take the lead three minutes in, thanks to an Anna Chadwick (Gardiner, Maine) goal, one of her four on the day. The Beavers were able to respond and score two unanswered goals in a three minute span to take a 2-1 lead. The Terriers finished the period scoring two unanswered goals from Mary LaRochelle (Woolwich, Maine).

The Terriers and Beavers went back-and-forth to begin the second quarter. Both teams traded goals in a one minute span, and the Terriers goal was scored by Lauren Bartlett (Wells, Maine). The Terriers and Beavers traded one more goal each halfway through the quarter. The bottom half of the quarter saw the Terriers score four unanswered goals. LaRochelle (twice), Bartlett, and Chadwick all scored to lead the Terriers to a halftime score of 9-4. Bartlett also won an extremely impressive five draw controls during the quarter.

The Beavers came out of halftime looking to chip away at the Terriers lead, scoring two quick goals to make the score 9-6. However, the Terriers scored four unanswered once
again, with goals coming from Chadwick and LaRochelle early in the quarter, and later goals being scored by Aubrey Schaeffer (Union, Maine) and Amanda Blondin (Gardiner, Maine) This marked Shaeffer's and Blondin's first collegiate goals for Thomas College.

The fourth quarter was somewhat quiet, with both teams trading two goals each. Scarlett Raymond-Ayer (Hallowell, Maine) scored for the Terriers three minutes into the quarter, to make the score 14-6. Alia Chasse (Sanford, Maine) also scored with six minutes left to play. The Terriers were able to close out the game and earn their third win of the season.

LaRochelle led the team in points with six, scoring five goals and assisting another. Chadwick scored four goals, Bartlett scored two. Raymond-Ayer, Chasse, Schaeffer and Blondin all scored one goal each in the win.

Lizzy Gotay (Guilderland, N.Y.) once again got the start in net for the Terriers, making 10 total saves on 18 shots faced. Gotay held the Beavers scoreless in a 20 minute stretch from early in the third quarter to midway through the fourth.

Up Next: The Terriers will travel to face Cazenovia College at 1:00 PM on April 9th.
