BRUNSWICK, Maine - Devin Grindle's (Surry, Maine) two run home run and strong relief pitching led Thomas baseball to a 6-5 win over Bowdoin College on Sunday afternoon.
The Terriers found their offense in the third inning, scoring two runs off of a double by Matt Seymour (Old Town, Maine) and a single by Tony Meza (Los Angeles, Calif.). Bowdoin answered by scoring five unanswered runs but Thomas was not done fighting.
In the seventh inning Jake Lacroix (Berwick, Maine) singled to score Grindle to cut the Polar Bears lead back down to two runs. Three batters later Tommy Smith (Cumming, Ga.) singled scoring Anthony Mauriello (West Palm Beach, Fla.), chipping away at the Bowdoin lead.
Ryan Kappelmann (Auburn, Maine) hit a one out double in the top of the eighth inning to get on base, Grindle followed with a two run homer to give the Terriers the lead. Garrison Paillet (Coconut Creek, Fla.) got the win for Thomas, pitching three scoreless innings, only allowing four hits while striking out two. Jarrad Willette (Concord, N.H.) came in to get the final out and the save.
The win is the Terrier's fifth against the Polar Bears since 1980. Thomas has won two out of the last three, including 2018 when they won by the same exact score of 6-5
