WATERVILLE, Maine – Thomas women's lacrosse won big on senior day versus Northern Vermont University – Lyndon by a score of 13-1 on Sunday afternoon.
The Terriers jumped out to a six goal lead to begin the game, with the first coming from Scarlett Raymond-Ayer (Hallowell, Maine). Mary LaRochelle (Woolwich, Maine) followed by scoring twice in a stretch of 21 seconds, and then assisted Lauren Bartlett (Wells, Maine) to make the score 4-0 seven minutes in. Alia Chasse (Sanford, Maine) and Raymond-Ayer scored the next two goals to make it 6-0. The Hornets were able to score shortly after, but LaRochelle responded with the assist coming from Raymond-Ayer two minutes later.
The Terriers broke away even more during the second quarter, scoring four unanswered goals. Sydney Pinkham (Poland, Maine) scored twice in the span of a minute and a half to create an eight goal cushion for the Terriers. Bartlett and Chasse both scored again later in the quarter, to make the score 11-1 at halftime in favor of the Terriers.
The second half was a defensive battle, as only two goals were scored in the final 30 minutes of play. LaRochelle scored her final goal of the game with 10 minutes remaining in the third quarter, with Bronwyn Balboni (Bowdoinham, Maine) providing the assist. Balboni scored the final goal of the game with five seconds remaning, with the assisting coming from Anna Chadwick (Gardiner, Maine).
Pinkham, a senior defender, finished her career on a high note scoring two goals in her last home game for the Terriers. She accumulated a total of five goals, two assists, and six ground balls over three seasons, which two were unfortunately cut short due to COVID-19. A true storybook ending for Pinkham, who helped lead the Terriers to the playoffs in her final season.
LaRochelle led the team in points once again, scoring four goals and providing one assist. Raymond-Ayer, Bartlett, Chasse, and Pinkham all finished with two goals. Chadwick, Balboni, and Raymond-Ayer all ended with one assist. Bartlett led the team in ground balls with four, and also led the team with seven shots in a solid win for the Terriers.
Lizzy Gotay played all 60 minutes in net for the Terriers, only allowing one goal on 13 shots faced. Gotay finished the game with six saves and two ground balls in an impressive performance.
UP NEXT: The Terriers will travel to face the #1 seed SUNY-Canton in the first round of the North Atlantic Conference playoffs on Saturday, April 30th. Game time is to be determined.
