CANTON, N.Y. - Thomas women's lacrosse, the No. 4 seed, lost in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Championship semifinals on Saturday to No. 1 seeded SUNY Canton by a score of 21-4.
The Kangaroos jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first quarter,
Anna Chadwick (Gardiner, Maine) scored the Terrier's first goal at 8:19 to cut the lead back down to two goals. Canton ended the first 15 minutes with a 5-1 advantage.
Lauren Bartlett (Wells, Maine) scored the first goal of the second quarter to cut the Roos lead back down to three goals.
Mary LaRochelle (Woolwich, Maine) scored the second goal for Thomas in the second quarter, as the Terriers trailed Canton 10-3 at the half.
Both the Kangaroos offense and defense stayed hot in the second half, out scoring Thomas 11-1. The Roos have yet to lose a game to a conference foe yet this season, as they will face the winner of Maine Maritime Academy and Cazenovia in the championship game tomorrow.
LaRochelle led the Terriers with one goal and two assists in the contest.
Amanda Blondin (Gardiner, Maine), Chadwick, and Bartlett all had one goal each.
Lizzy Gotay (Guilderland, N.Y.) made 11 saves in net for Thomas.
The Terriers end the season 6-9 overall and 4-3 in conference. It was their best season since 2015 when the team finished 8-4 overall and 6-2 in conference.
LaRochelle tallied the most points for Thomas, with 46 goals and 21 assists. She scored the most goals since her coach,
Jenn Morris, in 2015 in which she had 51 goals. The first year also had three game winning goals this season.
Chadwick, a captain, led the team in draw controls (68) and ground balls (64). That is the most ground balls since 2014 when Erin Nelligan set the program record with 74. It is also the second most draw controls in a season, Kiley Jolicoeur had 76 in 2011.
Lizzy Gotay played every minute in goal for Thomas posting a record of 6-9. She ends her junior season with a GAA of 10.93 and a save percentage of .446.
