WATERVILLE, Maine – Thomas men's lacrosse dropped a matchup versus SUNY-Delhi on Sunday morning by a score of 20-3.
The first quarter began very positively for the Terriers, with both teams playing in a standstill thanks to
Patrick Buxton (Portland, Maine). Buxton had a total of seven saves in the first quarter of action, and the Terriers defense was able to contain the Broncos attack until late on in the quarter. The Terriers found themselves a man up and took advantage, with
Nathan Carter (Epsom, N.H.) scoring and
Jakeb Weston (West Gardiner, Maine) assisting to give the Terriers a 1-0 lead with two minutes to play in the first. The Broncos were able to respond with 11 seconds remaining, to make the score 1-1 at the end of one period.
The Broncos shut down the Terriers in the second quarter, scoring nine unanswered goals. The Broncos went into halftime with a 10-1 lead. The third quarter was much of the same, with the Broncos scoring seven unanswered goals.
The Terriers were able to hold the Broncos to three goals in the fourth quarter, while scoring two of their own.
Mathew Crisco (North Haven, Conn.) scored with the assist coming from a full-field pass from Buxton with about six minutes remaining to make the score 18-2. This was Buxton's first ever point for the Terriers. The Broncos scored two more goals, but Weston was able to capitalize on a man-up situation, with the assist coming from Carter.
Carter and Weston both finished the game with a goal and an assist, for a total of two points each. Buxton and Crisco both finished the game with one point.
Dominic DeSimone (Millersville, Md.) finished the game with a team high four ground balls, and
Hunter Vail (Windham, Maine) contributed three ground balls.
Buxton played the entire game in net for the Terriers, recording an impressive 22 saves. Buxton held the Broncos scoreless in the first 14 minutes of the game.
