UTICA, N.Y. - Men's lacrosse battled hard on Sunday afternoon against reigning North Atlantic Conference champion SUNY Poly ultimately falling 14-8.
The Wildcats scored the first three goals, to take a 3-0 lead in the first quarter.
Mathew Crisco (North Haven, Conn.) scored the first goal for the Terriers to cut the SUNY Poly lead back down to two goals. The first fifteen minutes ended with the Wildcats up 6-1.
Timothy Worster (Mount Vernon, Maine) scored 23 seconds in the second quarter and then again later in the quarter for Thomas' two goals. SUNY Poly went into the half with a 11-3 lead.
The Terriers came out in the second half playing better defense, holding the Wildcats to just five goals. Crisco scored his second goal of the game at 13:16 in the third quarter.
Daniel MacWhinnie (Lanesborough, Mass.) found the back of the net for his first goal of the game.
Thomas played their best in the final quarter, holding SUNY Poly scoreless.
William Heywood (Gray, Maine), Crisco and Worster all added goals in the last fifteen minutes to cut the Wildcat lead down to six.
Worster led the Terriers efforts with three goals and one assist, Crisco added two goals and an assist while MacWhinnie scored two goals.
Patrick Buxton (Portland, Maine) started in goal for Thomas, playing the first half, making five saves.
Daniel Guarino (Wakefield, Mass.) came in, in the second half, and also made five saves.
