BOSTON, Mass. - Women's lacrosse battled hard on the road against a tough Emerson College team on Wednesday, losing 15-9.
The Lions struck first at 14:28 with a goal by Jules Rein.
Lauren Bartlett (Wells, Maine) answered for the Terriers one minute later to knot the game at one. Emerson scored the next four goals in the first period to extend their lead.
Anna Chadwick (Gardiner, Maine) found the back of the net for Thomas at 4:16 to cut the lead back down to two. The Lions scored two more goals at the end of the first quarter to take a 6-2 lead.
The Terriers held the Lions to just one goal in the second quarter.
Mary LaRochelle (Woolwich, Maine) scored the first of Thomas' two goals in the quarter. Bartlett added the second one with just five seconds remaining in the first half as Emerson took a 8-3 lead into the half.
The Lions' offense came out roaring in the first third quarter, scoring five goals. Bartlett netted her third goal of the game for the lone Terriers goal in the third quarter.
Thomas started the final fifteen minutes by scoring three unanswered goals, two by
Alia Chasse (Sanford, Maine) and one by LaRochelle, to cut the Lions lead down to four goals. However, Emerson answered with three straight goals of their own to seal the victory.
Chasse led the Terriers with three goals and one assist while Bartlett added three goals, and LaRochelle put two goals past the Lions' goalie.
Lizzy Gotay (Guilderland, N.Y.) made eight saves in net for Thomas.
UP NEXT: Thomas plays their home opener on Saturday against Maine Maritime Academy at 1 p.m. The Terriers will be looking to avenge their loss last weekend in Castine.
