Men's lacrosse dominates Hornets in conference opener

WATERVILLE, Maine - Thomas men's lacrosse bounced back from their loss against University of Southern Maine with a dominating performance against NVU-Lyndon, beating the Hornets 23-2.  
  
Daniel MacWhinnie (Lanesborough, Mass.) wasted no time for the Terriers, scoring the first goal at 13:06 in the first quarter, with the assist going to Nathan Carter (Epsom, N.H.). Max Irons (Limerick, Maine) and MacWhinnie scored for Thomas to give the home team a three-goal cushion.  
  
Thomas entered the second quarter, leading 4-1 but did not let their foot off the gas, holding the Hornets scoreless and putting up four more goals. They took a comfortable 8-1 lead into the half.  
  
Thomas again held Lyndon scoreless in the third quarter and extended their lead to 13-1. Carter scored two goals in the quarter while Richard Longo (Wakefield, Mass.), William Heywood (Gray, Maine), and Irons each had one. The Terriers continued their offensive prowess in the fourth quarter, scoring ten goals.  
  
The home team got goals from eight different players in the win. Irons led the team's offensive efforts with seven goals and four assists. MacWhinnie added four goals while Timothy Worster (Mount Vernon, Maine) and Heywood each had three goals.  
  
The impressive stats for the Terriers did not just happen on offense, Carter won an incredible 23 of 26 faceoffs. Patrick Buxton (Portland, Maine) played all sixty minutes in net for Thomas, making 18 saves, and picking up his first win of the season.  
   
Up Next: Thomas men's lacrosse hosts Salem State in non-conference action on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
