BANGOR, Maine. - Thomas women's lacrosse (1-2) rode a strong second half to upend Husson University (0-3) 11-4 on Friday afternoon.
The Eagles went up 4-0 after the first thirty minutes of play but the Terriers settled down and played their best so far this season. First year Head Coach
Jenn Morris made some key adjustments for the second half and the team came out focused and determined.
First year
Alia Chasse (Sanford, Maine) scored the first goal for the Terriers at 13:33 in the third quarter. First year
Mary LaRochelle (Woolwich, Maine) and senior
Anna Chadwick (Gardiner, Maine) both scored moments later to bring Thomas within one goal of Husson. Chasse scored her sixth goal of the season to tie things up half way through the third quarter.
Five minutes later junior
Lauren Bartlett (Wells, Maine) scored her first goal of the season to give the Terriers their first lead of the game. Chadwick scored the next three goals for Thomas. Bartlett would score two more times in the fourth quarter and Chasse added her third goal of the season.
Chadwick led the team's efforts with four goals, nine ground balls, five caused turnovers and six draw controls. Chasse added three goals and three assists while Barlett added three goals and one assist.
Thomas' defense held Husson to just five shots in the second half. Junior
Lizzy Gotay (Guilderland, N.Y.) picked up her first win of the season in net for the Terriers, making nine saves.
The win marks the second time in three meetings that Thomas women's lacrosse has beaten Husson. Before 2021, their last win against Husson was in 2014 when Coach Morris was in her second year as a player.
