WATERVILLE, Maine. - Thomas men's lacrosse fell in their season opener on Wednesday to the University of Southern Maine (2-2) by a score of 19-6
Nick James opened up scoring for the Huskies within the first 30 seconds of the contest,
William Heywood (Gray, Maine) answered 40 seconds later for the Terriers, assisted by
Max Irons (Limerick, Maine). USM would outscore Thomas 7-1 in the remainder of the first quarter.
Daniel MacWhinnie (Lanesborough, Mass.) picked up the second goal for the home team.
The second quarter saw the Huskies continue their offensive prowess, outscoring the Terriers 5-1. MacWhinnie picked up the lone goal for Thomas in the quarter. USM went into halftime with a 13-3 lead.
The Terriers played their best in the fourth quarter, scoring three goals and holding the Huskies to just one goal. Irons scored two goals in the final fifteen minutes while MacWhinnie added one.
MacWhinnie led Thomas' offensive efforts with three goals while Irons had two goals and one assist and Heywood had a goal and an assist.
Daniel Guarino (Wakefield, Mass.) started in the net for the Terriers making nine saves,
Patrick Buxton (Portland, Maine) came in the second half making 10 saves.
