NASHUA, N.H. - Thomas women's lacrosse was almost able to mount a tremendous comeback against Rivier University on Thursday afternoon, ultimately falling 12-10.
The Raiders got off to a quick start scoring three unanswered goals to start the game. First year
Mary LaRochelle (Woolwich, Maine) got the Terriers on the board when she scored on a free position shot with just five minutes remaining in the first quarter. Rivier added one more goal before the first fifteen minutes ended, giving them a 4-1 edge.
Anna Chadwick (Gardiner, Maine) found the back of the net with 11:42 remaining in the second quarter, cutting the Raiders lead back down to two. LaRochelle added two more goals in the second quarter, as Thomas went into halftime trailing 8-4.
The Terrier defense came out on fire in the second half, holding Rivier to just four goals. First year
Alia Chasse (Sanford, Maine) scored the first two goals in the third quarter for the visitors while LaRochelle added her fourth goal of the game. Thomas got within two goals of the Raiders in the third quarter but in the dying seconds, the home team scored again to extend their lead to three goals.
Chasse got the hat trick just 40 seconds into the final quarter and LaRochelle added her fifth goal of the game to cut the Raider lead to 10-9. Caitlin Newell scored her second goal of the game to give her team a two-goal cushion again. Four minutes later
Scarlett Raymond-Ayer (Hallowell, Maine) got Thomas within one, scoring her first collegiate goal, however Thomas was not able to complete the comeback, falling 12-10 to the Raiders.
