Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Determined women's hoops lose close battle to NAC foe UMaine Farmington on senior day

WATERVILLE, Maine – Thomas women's basketball showed a lot of heart and determination but came up just short against University of Maine at Farmington on senior day, losing 52-47.

The Terriers scored 10 out of the first 12 points in the game, moving the ball well and playing strong defense. The Beavers were able to cut the lead down to four at the end of the first quarter, trailing 14-10.

UMaine Farmington tied the game up at 16 a piece in the early stages of the second quarter before Kaylee Ravagli (Lowell, Mass.) was able to hit a deep three pointer, to give Thomas the lead back. The rest of the second half was back and forth, with the Beavers edging the Terriers 14-11 in the second quarter. The home team went into the locker room with a slim 25-24 lead.

The third quarter continued to be back and forth, with both teams taking slim leads. Thomas was able to make a few key defensive stops late in the quarter enroute to an 8-3 run after 30 minutes of play. The Terriers went into the final quarter with a four-point run and things looked good.

Unfortunately, UMaine Farmington made adjustments before the fourth quarter and was able to find success on both sides of the ball. The Beavers outscored Thomas 16-7 in the final ten minutes, sealing their victory.

The two seniors scored 25 of the Terrier's 47 points. Ravagli led the Terriers once again with 16 while Anna Piirainen (West Paris, Maine) added nine points. Brianne Benecke (Oakland, Maine) had a team high eight rebounds and Lindsay Given (Waterville, Maine) added seven points. McKenna Brodeur led the Beavers with 17 points in 33 minutes.

UP NEXT: Thomas will travel to the University of Maine at Presque Isle for an opening round North Atlantic Conference playoff contest on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. The Owls took both regular season meetings against the Terriers.
