Men's Ice Hockey came up short against #13UCONN (ACHA) losing 4-3 in overtime. The back and forth game was controlled at times by the Terriers but Grayson Chopskie was excellent in net for the Huskies and eventually was the difference.
After a scoreless first period UCONN broke through just 1:26 into the second period. 52 seconds later
Nicholas Fischetto banged home a rebound off a shot from
Ryan Kappelmann to make it 1-1.
Zack Pelletier who was solid on defense all evening, was credited with the assist. UCONN went back ahead with about 7 minutes remaining in the 2
nd but
Jacob Davis breakaway goal exactly 1 minute later sent the teams to the locker room tied 2-2.
5 minutes into the 3
rd period
Jacob Davis gave the Terriers their first lead with assists coming from
Jack Morrill and
Ryan Thibault who also was stellar on defense all evening. Later in the period UCONN tied the score on a power play goal and the teams would eventually head to overtime. The 3 v 3 overtime format was back and forth however with only 43 seconds remaining UCONN broke through on a goal from Liam Gelfand.
Miloslav Fuksa was excellent in net turning aside 29 shots. Coach Joey Waraskevich commented on teams commitment to defense and overall discipline. "We certainly are disappointed in the end result of the game but we clearly proved we can compete with the top teams in our conference."
