BANGOR, Maine – The Thomas College baseball team fell to Husson University in games one and two of the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) East Division Championship on Friday afternoon. The pair of wins for the Eagles clinched the NAC East title for Husson.
GAME 1 – Husson 12, Thomas 0
Thomas threatened early, loading the bases with two outs in the top of the first, but were unable to bring a run home. Husson took advantage in the bottom half of the inning, scoring twice to go ahead 2-0. The Eagles added on one more in the fifth to extend their lead to 3-0.
The Terriers had another opportunity to cut the Husson lead in the seventh, getting runners on first and second with no outs. A fielder's choice got runners to second and third, but they were left stranded there. Husson pulled away in the later innings, scoring six in the seventh and three in the eighth to take a 12-0 win.
Ryan Scepansky (Blandon, Pa.) was tagged with the loss for Thomas, allowing two earned runs on two hits while striking out four in six innings of work.
GAME 2 – Husson 10, Thomas 7
The Eagles took the early edge again, plating one in the top of the second. Thomas answered in the bottom of the innings, with a two-run double by
Lucas Harmon (Danville, N.H.) and an RBI single by
Kyle Gleason (Danville, N.H.) giving Thomas a 3-1 lead. Husson picked up a pair in the third to tie it back up 3-3.
Gleason helped Thomas regain the lead in the fourth inning, blasting a two-run home run to put Thomas ahead 5-3.
Aaron Young (Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.) scored on an error in the fifth to extend the Thomas lead to 6-3. Husson used a three-run seventh inning to even things back up at 6-6, where the scored stayed until the ninth inning. The Eagles rallied for four runs in the top of the inning to pull ahead 10-6. Thomas was able to get one across in the bottom of the ninth on a
Devin Grindle (Surry, Maine) double, but the comeback fell short as the Eagles took it 10-7.
Dylan Copeland (Salisbury, Mass.) pitched eight innings, allowing four earned runs on eight hits with four strikeouts in the no decision effort.
Jacob Lacroix (Berwick, Maine) took the loss, allowing three runs in a third of an inning in the ninth.
