WATERVILLE, Maine –
Mackenzie Driscoll (North Andover, Mass.) matched her career-high with five goals to lead the Thomas College women's lacrosse team to a 13-8 victory over Husson in their season opener on Saturday afternoon on Bernatchez Field.
The Terriers went up 3-1 in the early going, with
Taylor Rodriguez (Winslow, Maine),
Autumn Howe (Merrimack, N.H.) and Driscoll all tallying goals. The Eagles would take the lead with 13 minutes left in the half after scoring three unanswered to make it 4-3. Howe tied the score back at 4 with her second of the game minutes later, but Husson put two in the back of the net to regain the lead 6-4. The Terriers closed out the half with three-straight goals, capped by
Sydney Pinkham's (Poland, Maine) first career goal with 19 seconds left in the period to put Thomas back up 7-6 at the break.
The Eagles regained the lead with a pair of goals in the first 1:15 of the second, but the Terriers shut them down from there. Rodriguez quickly scored the equalizer followed by a Driscoll goal giving Thomas the lead for good at the 27:02 mark. The Terriers tacked on four more goals to cap off a 13-8 win.
Arianna Cannistraro (Waltham, Mass.) was steady in net for Thomas, making seven saves on 15 shots and blanking the Eagles over the final 28:58 of the game.
