WATERVILLE, Maine - Husson University beat Thomas College in the New England Collegiate Conference Championship game, by a score of 2-1 in overtime on Sunday afternoon.
The Eagles and Terriers were evenly matched throughout the game with both teams making great defensive stops throughout the game.
Phoebe Joy opened up the scoring for Husson at the end of the first quarter with an assist from Teagan Blackie. Both teams had offensive opportunities in the first half but were unable to convert.
Britney Gregoire (Kennebunk, Maine) tied the game up for Thomas two minutes and five second into the second half. Neither team was able to find the back of the goal cage again in regulation.
With just over five minutes played in overtime, Amanda Frost found the back of the net in a quick series of plays in front of first year
Brennan Pinto (Langhorne, PA), winning the championship for the Eagles.
Both goalies played terrific for their respective teams. Pinto made six saves for Thomas including a tremendous one on a Husson break away. Kimmie Goddard saved one of her best performances of the year for the final game turning away 12 shots. Goddard was named MVP of the tournament for her efforts.
The Terriers had a great season overall, finsihing first in the NECC regular season. Thomas'
